"BITE" or be Bitten.

BITES 2017 Logo a BLASTOM! property

When you say ‘bite’ in reference to sound, “sound bite’ comes mind, naturally. When you say ‘byte,’ technology is what you think of first. Either name would have served BLASTOM!’s purpose just fine, but, “BITES” is really more about music than technology, so in the end, ‘bite’ won out.

I was starting out on this project, “Bitty Bytes,” which gave way to, “Bytes” and in the final analysis, became a project that you’ll come to know as “BITES.” It started out as a personal challenge to create a token gift for my husband for Christmas. Just a small clip of me singing, “All I want for Christmas is You,” but according to me, it just had to have a personal cheesecake picture of me in a Santa hat attached to the file. With technology today, that’s not a problem, but in December of 2015, fogged aboud it. But I was determined, and I made it happen. Be prepared, the Bite is good, the singing is not.

It seemed insane to me that artists hadn’t caught on to the fact that their downloadable music shouldn’t automatically come with complementary artwork promoting them, or the track. Again, these days “That’s so 2016!” But now I wonder about the other part of my challenge…the actual, “BITE.”

What gives music industry? You’ve got your songs and your albums, but physical sales are in the tank. You can’t tour anymore because album sales don’t permit it, and you’re just done for the day? Not on my watch! We're painfully aware that artists are taken advantage of by contracts that leave them with 20% or less of licensing fees. Most are forced into streaming contracts under the guise of promoting albums, only to find their material spread thin and mass marketed. Gone are the days where fans voted for their favorite artists with the power of their voices. That gave way to voting with dollars, and now what role does music play in our cities of silence? Where strangers don't even say "good morning" on the streets anymore?

BITES is a new to market product that is so simple that artists already own it and don’t even realize it. Imagine, a product that cost you next to nothing, that you could revamp 2-3 times at little or no cost, but sell as a new product each time. Imagine having enough product to give it away free, just for consumer loyalty. Something that could be common place, or exclusive, yet easily as collectable as the stickers, Pogs or Jelly Bracelets of your youth. Then, you’ll understand BITES. Today BLASTOM! offers a series of Arcade Bites, tomorrow is another day, and we are hopping to offer you Bites from your favorite artists soon.

Navigate on over to the Bites Boutique, and download to your heart's content; and please, send them to your friends before they send them to you. Or, as we say at BLASTOM!, "Bite or be Bitten!"
