Here I Glow Again
"A little change is a good thing," I told myself as I sat down to re-design Blastom's logo.
Since dropping my incorporation in July this year, I've begun to feel that Blastom's logo was a touch too impersonal. So, I decided to muster all the creativity I had to incorporate an additional element that I felt did not to come across clearly in the old logo: Ideation.
Where I attempted to symbolize, the light and bright, associated with good ideas, in the old logo, I chose to be more direct in the new logo's design.
Since the days of Washington, it seems, that any and all good ideas are represented by a light bulb. I began to wonder, how each new idea might be represented visually, with a lightbulb being the common theme. It occurred to me that different types of light, color, reach, radius of spokes, and temperature, would easily translate into identifying an idea. Each unique in its own right, there are infinite combinations of design possible, just as there are infinite permutations of potential ideas, just waiting to be hatched. It was then, that I started dabbling in some light design work.
Once the artwork concept was underway, it became evident that I would need to re-design blastom.com as a cradle of the new/old theme. This time, rather than create a word mark logo, I chose a simple handmade font to keep things cozy. My aim, to translate the personal aspect of my company.
If you don't know, the majority of the assets that I use on the site and as communication tools are made by yours truly, and I hoped to capture this homespun ethic with the font. In the previous logo I kept things rugged, in the hopes of showing this, this time around I decided to split the duties of the logo, by keeping the word mark simple and personal, and the artwork to convey the "bright idea" message.
I hope my design speaks to you in the same way it speaks to me, and that it does manage to convey the warm optimism, and magic that I feel, of coming up with an idea well designed.
